Daniel Chong, violin Violinist Daniel Chong is active as both a chamber musician and a solo performer. As a recitalist, Mr. Chong has concertized in Weill Recital Hall, Curtis Hall, Kulas Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and many others in the U.S., Germany and Switzerland. A recipient of the 2003-04 Presser Scholar Award for outstanding achievement at the New England Conservatory of Music, he has also won top prizes at numerous competitions as a founding member of the Parker String Quartet, including the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Kingsville International Music Competition. A native of Southern California, Daniel Chong began the violin at age four, and studied with Robert Lipsett at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. He was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music at the age of thirteen where he studied with Victor Danchenko. Among the many scholarships that Mr. Chong has been awarded is the Jack Vernon Endowed Scholarship to the New England Conservatory, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree and Graduate Diploma as a student of Donald Weilerstein. As a member of the Parker String Quartet, he has toured widely and participated in several series including Ravinia Festival's Rising Starts Series, Schneider Concerts Series at the New School, and Concert Artists Guild?s New Works Series. In addition the group has toured in Europe as part of their Bordeaux Competition award. Outside the concert hall, the Parker String Quartet has brought music to new ears in non-traditional spaces. Its performances in bars and clubs all over the East Coast have been featured in Time Out NY, Boston Globe, Chamber Music Magazine and Musical America.com. In fall 2007, the group became the first ever string quartet in residence at Barbes Bar and Performance Space in Brooklyn, collaborating with artists of other musical genres including jazz, folk, and world music. The Parker Quartet was recently selected for the Professional String Quartet Training Program at the New England Conservatory, where the group was founded. |
