Bobby Thorp, trumpet
Born in Norman, Oklahoma, Bobby Thorp realized at a very young age that he
had a gift for playing the trumpet. He first started his career performing in the
Blues Alley Youth Orchestra, an ensemble founded by Dizzy Gillespie. Later,
he flourished in the jazz and rock scene. In 1996, Bobby decided to focus on his
passion for classical chamber music and founded the "Synergy Brass Quintet",
where he still serves as Ist Trumpet. His playing is described as having "blazing
precision" and "dazzling articulation" by the Watertown Daily Times WI. He has
performed at many of the Nation's most prominent music festivals, including
Tanglewood Music Festival, Ravinia Music Festival, Bethelem Music Festival, and
the Boston Early Music Festival. An advocate of new music, Bobby has premiered
and commissioned numerous works including "Sonata for Trumpet" by Daniel Pinkham
and "Transfiguration: An Ecumenical Mass" by Samuel Adler. During the summer,
Bobby teaches at the Festival de Musica de Camara in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
